NatWest returns to advertising after crisis

NatWest is running ads again promoting its “helpful banking” services after a three week self-enforced break following the computer problems that left thousands of customers unable to draw their salaries.

Press ads highlight how almost a thousand NatWest branches are open on Saturday with the line “if you can’t pop in during the week, pop in on Saturday”.

Ads for its products and services were pulled last month after the RBS owned bank concluded it was “inappropriate” for them to run until customer’s account issues were solved. It is thought almost all accounts have now been updated

Press activity stressing the action bank staff were taking to clear the backlog have been running but have steered clear of using the “helpful banking”strapline.

Rival Barclays also stopped advertising recently following public outrage over the LIBOR rate rigging scandal but have yet to start again.
