Branding will appear on the shirt sleeves of referees officiating Barclays Premier League, npower Football League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup games.

The value of the deal is undisclosed but it does offer Expedia an opportunity to raise awareness of its brand and services among the estimated 5 billion that are said to follow English football globally.

Andrew Warner, senior marketing director of Expedia, says: “As the world’s largest online travel agent it seemed logical to associate with a sport that has a truly global audience.”

The deal starts on Sunday (12 August) at the Community Shield at Villa Park.

Expedia replaces Tune Group, the Asian travel and leisure company.
