Davies will leave the business in October to become the executive general manager and chief marketing officer at the banking firm. He will be replaced by sales director Anthony Ainsworth, who will take on a expanded role as sales and marketing director.
Customer operations director David Bird will assume marketing responsibilities for the company’s residential customers.
Ainsworth will head up a new sales and marketing division, to be formed in October, that will house E.on’s business marketing, digital, marketing communications and customer insight teams.
E.on insists that Davies departure will not affect its marketing plans, adding: “our teams will continue their great work to help us further engage with our customers.”
The changes come at the end of an eventful 18 months for the company’s marketing team. Earlier this year, it overhauled its sponsorship strategy to focus on community events such as local sports tournaments and music gigs across the UK. It also appointed head of marketing communications Darren Carter to manage its through-the-line marketing strategy last September. The company is also rolling out a wider strategy to “reset” its relationship with customers and communicate its sustainability initiatives.
Davies joined E.on from banking firm Abbey in 2008 where he was brand and communications director. Ainsworth joined the company in February from car hire brand Avis and prior to that held positions at Abbey and Lloyds TSB.
