Brands get excited for bank-holiday weekend

Old el Paso, Havana Club and Red Stripe are each readying separate tactical marketing campaigns in a bid to exploit the excitement around the final bank holiday weekend of the year.


Mexican food brand Old el Paso is launching the second phase of its ‘Bring on La Fiesta’ campaign, with an ad inspired by this weekend’s rainy forecast.

The brand developed two adverts with the weekend’s weather forecast in mind; one for the rain and the other for the sun. With more rain set for Britain over the weekend, it will launch an ad campaign featuring a fajita wrap underneath an umbrella with the strapline ‘Another Damp BBQ? Fajitaboutit. Bring on La Fiesta’.

Meanwhile, Havana Club and Red Stripe are using this weekend’s Notting Hill Carnival to reach out to consumers beyond traditional advertising methods.

Pernod Ricard’s rum brand Havana Club is launching a raft of on-and-off trade promotions throughout the Carnival area to promote its ‘Havana Club Especial with Ginger Beer’ and ‘Havana Club 3 Year Old with Ting’ ranges. The rum and mixers will be merchandised together in local newsagents, while the Havana Club Mojito variant will be available at a number of pubs and clubs.

The brand has also signed a one-off deal with Time Out magazine, which will include print ads and sponsored articles in this weekend’s issue.

Jamaican beer brand Red Stripe will be hosting an outdoor exhibition of photos from photographer Pennie Smith, featuring people behind the Carnival such as dancers, steel drummers and local youth club workers over the bank holiday weekend.
