Thomas Cook recruits Confused.com marketer

Thomas Cook is believed to have firmed up its marketing team to meet the challenge of online tour operators with the appointment of former Confused.com marketer Mike Hoban.

Thomas Cook

Hoban has a strong background in digital marketing and working with online brands such as the Government’s DirectGov website. He has also worked for Barclaycard and British Airways.

Thomas Cook is competing against a number of online tour operators and aggregator sites, including Expedia and Cheapflights.com.

The holiday company had no comment to make when contacted about Hoban’s appointment.

It is not known what job title Hoban is to be given or how the appointment affects the role of interim marketing director Michael Johnson. The latter has been working on a contract basis with Thomas Cook for some time.

Thomas Cook also recently parted company with group sales and marketing director for ecommerce Louise Mullock.

The tour operator has experienced a turbulent 12 months and a restructuring of finances has led to some disposals. The UK division is headed up by CEO for mainstream holidays Iain Ailes and the parent company recently named Harriet Green as group CEO.

It launched a spring booking campaign under the banner “It’s a wonderful world” with a soundtrack by Joey Ramone.
