Facebook launches first brand campaign

Facebook has created its first brand campaign to mark the milestone of reaching 1 billion monthly active users.

In a blog post, Facebook’s founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg says the aim of the ad is to reflect the role it hopes to serve in the world to connect people together.

It asks people to think about the everyday objects that bring people together such as chairs, bridges, aeroplanes and basketball.

The “Things That Connect Us” ad, which is soundtracked by post-rock band Explosions in the Sky, will be targeted at users on the site in 13 countries, including the UK, US, Germany and Brazil. It launched on Facebook today (4 October) and is not thought there are plans for the video to appear on other media beyond digital.

The spot was created by Wieden + Kennedy, which has been the social network’s “agency of record” since October 2011.
