Utilities firm reinstates its commercial director role with Orr appointment in a bid to harmonise its marketing and sales function.

Orr starts the role immediately with a brief to harmonise the company’s marketing and sales offerings. He will be tasked with growing the the energy firm’s revenues through customer acquisition.

The role has been vacant since the company split it out into marketing, sales and insight last December following the departure of Rick Vlemmiks. Orr was promoted at the time to head up the company’s marketing activity and will carry these responsibilities over to his new role. He will also have oversight of the company’s sales and insight activity. However, both the senior sales and insight roles will remain.

The energy supplier has launched several iniatives since the start of the year to improve the transparency of its tariffs and billings. In August, it announced plans to crowdsource ideas from 50,000 people on the services they want from an energy company.

Analysts have predicted that British Gas will hike its energy prices after warning customers earlier this year that suppliers will be forced to pass on mounting wholesale costs. It is likely the company will launch marketing activty to communicate any changes to homeowners’ bills.
