Save the Children launches Christmas jumper campaign

Save the Children has created Christmas Jumper Day encouraging people to wear novelty sweaters to raise funds.

Christmas Jumper Day Save the Children
Novelty idea: Christmas jumpers can help Save the Children.

The fundraising campaign encourages people to wear a Christmas jumper on 14 December and donate £1 to the charity to help fund its global aid programmes.

The campaign strapline states: “After years in style exile, the Christmas jumper is back and it’s helping to save children’s lives. Make the world better with a sweater.”

Celebrities including Myleene Klass, Erin O’Connor, Lisa Snowdon, Lauren Laverne (pictured right), Jon Snow (pictured right) and Vicky McClure are supporting the campaign and will feature in a range f promotional material wearing festive knitwear.

Save the Children is tapping into the growing trend towards Christmas jumpers and hopes to encourage organisations to get involved in the fundraising event. It has created fundraising packs for schools and offices to raise awareness.

It has also developed a range of free knitting patterns so supporters can knit their own Christmas jumper and activity packs to help people decorate their own jumper rather than buying a brand new jumper for the initiative.

Supporters are also encouraged to visit its charity stores to buy a festive jumper or pass on hand knitted goods to be resold and raise cash.

The charity is running press ads from today (20 November) to raise awareness of the campaign as well as online and social media activity.
