Trinity ramps up marketing with senior hires

Newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror has created two new group-wide senior marketing roles as it accelerates its strategy towards becoming “One Trinity Mirror” following the recent merger of its national and regional divisions.


Neil Jagger will join Trinity Mirror as group newspaper sales and marketing director from Associated Newspapers, where he has been circulation director of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday since 2000.

Jagger will be responsible for consumer and retail marketing and driving retail sales, reporting into chief operating officer Mark Hollinshead, who manages the consolidated national and regional operations.

He will also become a member of the recently formed publishing operations group – which is made up of senior executives from its editorial, advertising and digital teams – to drive the “One Trinity Mirror” publishing strategy, created by new CEO Simon Fox.

Also joining Trinity Mirror’s newly created senior marketing team is former MTV and Natmags marketing director and current WCRS strategy director Zoe Harris.

Harris will become group marketing director, reporting into Jagger. They will both join the business in early 2013.

Trinity Mirror has not had senior marketing roles at the business for at least five years.

Mark Hollinshead says: “Unifying the sales and marketing functions under these senior positions is designed to deliver a One Trinity Mirror publishing model that will help us sell more newspapers.”

Trinity Mirror announced it was to merge its nationals and regionals division in October, which now works under a “unified” management structure.

CEO Simon Fox said at the time he believes the changes will create “One Trinity Mirror”, with a “unique” portfolio of brands and the best structure to develop in the long term. He is due to provide a strategy update in early 2013.
