He will work on several projects this year as the business looks to drive more explicit ties between brands including Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Trains and Virgin Holidays through its marketing.
Prior to his promotion, Gilbert spent two years at the company’s Virgin Media business as its first chief marketing officer. He led an overhaul of the marketing department during his tenure by bringing its customer insight team alongside its brand and marketing teams.
Gilbert was replaced by brand director Jeff Dodds following his promotion to Virgin group at the start of this year. The company declined to specify what the role was in the at the time.
The announcement comes just days after the company’s Virgin Atlantic brand launched a domestic airline offering Little Red to rival BA in the region.
