Virgin Atlantic’s top marketer out in restructure

Virgin Atlantic’s top marketer Simon Lloyd is to leave the carrier after less than a year in the role.

He will be replaced by global sales director Maria Sebastian, who will add marketing to her existing brief. It is not known if Lloyd has a job to go to.

The airline split the sales and marketing functions when Lloyd joined in July 2012. Previous incumbent Paul Dickinson had oversight of both.

Lloyd is credited with developing Virgin’s “Flying in the face of Ordinary” global brand campaign, its first brand campaign in two and half years when launched in January.

In December, Singapore Airlines sold its 49 per cent in Virgin Atlantic to Delta Air Lines for £224m.

Lloyd joined Virgin from the BBC in July 2012 where he led the marketing and audience functions based in the broadcaster’s Salford HQ. Prior to the BBC, he held senior marketing positions at smartphone maker Palm and 118 118.
