Dove tops Cannes to Cannes list

Unilever’s Dove Real Beauty Sketches was the most popular ad on YouTube in the last 12 months according to the video-sharing site’s owner Google. 

To mark the 2013 Cannes Lions Festival later this month,  YouTube has compiled a list of the ten-most popular ads uploaded to the video-sharing network since the 2012 Cannes event, in terms of view and paid-to earned views ratio, finding Unilever’s Dove series, which features a sketch artist creating images of “real women”, leading the pack. This was followed closely by Turkish Airlines who relied on the combined star power of basketball and soccer stars Kobe Bryant and Lionel Messi to drive views.

Meanwhile the French pairing of Evian and Havas relied on the latest instalment of the ‘Babies’ series to revive shares.

Despite launching in 2012, the latest Call of Action release remains within the top-five with its celebrity cameos and computer-simulated ultra-violence.

Meanwhile, soft drinks behemoth Pepsi employed stock car driver and its “can cam” to tap into audiences’ initial reticence to talk to car salesmen and tendency to voyueristic videos detailing other people’s terror.
