The airline, owned by the independent Monarch Group, has restructured and Williamson is one of three new board members. Also appointed were Adrian Tighe to oversee commercial partnerships and business development and Marisa Blasco to lead revenue management and network development.

Iain Rawlinson, executive chairman of The Monarch Group, says: “The Group has recently announced the appointment of three highly experienced directors to the Board of Monarch Airlines, who will further strengthen that division’s resources in three key areas of revenue management and network development, customer experience, and commercial partnerships, and we expect they will add significantly to the ongoing development of this business.”

Williamson was most recently CEO for the Irish accompanied tour operator The Travel Department.

Monarch Airlines, headquartered at Luton, switched its focus from chartered to scheduled operations in 2010

It introduced the strapline “Fly your way. Every day” strapline in 2011.

First half year financial results for Monarch Airlines saw revenues rise by 10% to £206.4m, with passenger numbers up 7% at 1.9m.

Sister divisions include Cosmos Holidays, Avro and somewhere2stay.
