Wagamama has created a new marketing director role to steer its global expansion.

Cope will oversee marketing, property and the restaurant’s international franchising business. He will work alongside the company’s head of marketing Ingrid Williamson, who will retain responsibility for the day-to-day management of the brand.

He joins the company amid an expansion drive that will see the business open up to 20 sites worldwide every year. Wagamama is hoping his experience overseeing the Pepsi brand at Britvic Soft Drinks can help the brand appeal to younger consumers.

David Williams, chairman of Wagamama, says: “The strength of the Wagamama brand, coupled with an awareness of our customer demands in the increasing competitive marketplace, will be core to supporting this exciting growth both in the UK and international markets.

The brand has outlets in 17 countries around the world as well as 91 restaurants in the UK.
