Facebook names first CMO
Facebook has hired senior Google marketer Gary Briggs as its first chief marketing officer.
Briggs will manage teams responsible for product marketing, platform marketing, events, communication design, brand marketing and content strategy. According to an AdAge article he will report to the company’s vice president of product Chris Cox.
Briggs replaces the social network’s vice president of product marketing Eric Antonow, who has been leading the company’s marketing efforts since 2010 and will leave the business in September to pursue a personal project in education.
Briggs joins from Google where he was initially vice president of consumer marketing before being tasked with leading the marketing activity for Motorola Mobility following its $12.5bn (£8.1bn) acquisition last year. Prior to that, he also held senior marketing roles at PepsiCO, eBay and IBM.
The move is the latest in a reshuffle of the company’s marketing team, which has seen several of its marketers leave the UK for its Menlo Park headquarters. Last month, Facebook’s EMEA head of marketing communications Eric Edge moved to the US, while Karmarama executive chairman Nicola Mendelsohn became the company’s vice president for Europe in June.
