Samsung poaches Lynx global brand VP

Samsung has poached Unilever’s global brand vice president for its Lynx deodorant range Russell Taylor to lead the company’s brand strategy and communication in the UK and Ireland.

In the new role of vice president of corporate marketing, Taylor will lead the 46-strong corporate marketing team, focusing on increasing brand preference and awareness of the company in both the consumer and B2B markets.

He will sit on on the Samsung UK board and will report into UK and Ireland managing director Andy Griffiths.

Taylor takes on most of the responsibilities from former director of corporate marketing Andrew Garrihy who let the company after less than two years in March after the role was scrapped.

A Samsung spokeswoman says the job title has changed to become more senior “to reflect the changing Samsung business and growing importance of marketing and brand communications within the organisation”.

Taylor joins from Unilever where he has led marketing for the Lynx brand globally for the last seven years. Before his most recent role a global brand vice president for Axe/Lynx he held various local, regional and global brand roles across the Unilever business and is said to have been part of the 1995 team that coined “The Lynx Effect” strapline.

Samsung recently embarked on a major marketing recruitment drive, following the reshuffle of some of the divisions within its IT and mobile department, which will result in the company developing more campaigns about its family of products rather than just focusing on single devices.
