LG turns to apocalyptic prankvertising to promote 82-inch TV

LG has turned its hand again to the “prankvertising” trend with an online video which sees one of its 82-inch TVs rigged up to trick unsuspecting job interviewees that a meteor strike is wiping out the city outside. 

The ad, which has been viewed more than 2 million times since it was posted on Monday by LG Chile, carries the tagline “Reality, or Ultra Reality” and was designed to draw attention to the quality of its Ultra HD technology.

LG has posted two other similar stings using TVs to create optical illusions in recent months.

Last year it pranked riders of a lift into thinking they were about to plunge several floors down by placing IPS monitors on the floor and earlier this year it fit a display into ad screens above men’s urinals, which then switched to videos of beautiful women to make it look as though they were staring through a window.

In April Heineken pulled a similar stunt to LG’s most recent effort, by putting job interviewees through a series of unexpected situations.
