Nokia ambushes Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom ads

Nokia is looking to take a lead over Samsung to become the top imaging smartphone maker in the UK by ambushing its rival’s current outdoor advertising campaign with a fleet of vans.

Nokia Lumia 1020 Samsung ambush campaign

The Finnish smartphone maker has parked up vans next to Samsung’s out of home Galaxy S4 Zoom ads in London poking fun at its rival’s current marketing messages and drawing attention to the fact that the Lumia 1020 is lighter and slimmer than the S4 Zoom.

The Samsung ads read: “Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. The only smartphone with 10x optical zoom”, while the adjacent Nokia vans state “Still, it didn’t see this coming” and carries the hashtag #ZoomReinvented.

The tactical activity, created by agency 1,000 heads, forms part of Nokia’s recent efforts to transform its marketing into being more “disruptive” as it looks to claw back share lost to its rivals.

Nokia has a 7.7 per cent share of the UK smartphone market, behind BlackBerry (10.1 per cent), HTC (12.1 per cent), Apple (28.8 per cent) and Samsung (31 per cent), according to comScore data for June.
