Volkswagen in homage to A-Ha’s Take on Me video

Volkswagen has taken inspiration from the award-winning video for A-Ha’s breakthrough 1985 hit ‘Take on Me’ for a US ad pushing its maintenance service.

The video, created by Deutsch, inserts a VW car and its driver into the video. The driver is revealed to have dreamt the scene during a meeting and is shown propelled back to humdrum reality singing the song made famous by the Norwegian pop trio before asking “Was that me? Was I singing?”

Take on Me’ reached No.2 in the UK and No.1 in the US, its popularity due in large part to the Steve Barron directed video.

VW has been lauded for use of 70s and 80s iconography in recent years, launching an ad during the 2011 Super Bowl featuring a child dressed as Darth Vader.
