Snapchat has lured Instagram’s commercial lead Emily White, who will join the start-up photo-sharing service to become its COO, as it looks to ramp up its revenue streams.

Unilever was one of the first advertisers in the UK to test photo-sharing services Snapchat.

White was director of business operations at Instagram and helped the Facebook-owned operation launch advertising opportunities into the service and will look to do likewise at Snapchat.

In her new role White will work directly with Snapchat co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel, speaking with US website AllThingsD, White said it was an opportunity to work at a company that was disrupting the communications and a role she “could not pass up”.

Snapchat is one of the most popular performers in the ultra-competitive mobile communications sector, and has raised close to $90m in funding and also reportedly in talks to raise another round that would value the company at over $3.5bn.

The messaging service, which lets users send images that self-destruct within 10 seconds, currently has no advertising opportunities for brands, although it is said to be exploring what opportunities are available.
