McQueen, who held the title customer strategy and marketing director, is to be replaced by Stephen Leonard, who joined the mutual last month from West Bromwich Building Society as chief operating officer for marketing, on an interim basis until a replacement for McQueen can be found.
McQueen joined Nationwide in 2007 and held various roles, including a stint as director of mortgages, before becoming marketing director in 2011. Prior to Nationwide, he held senior marketing positions at Portman Building Society, which merged with Nationwide in 2007, and oversaw marketing at a number of digital start-ups.
McQueen told Marketing Week it was time for a change after 11 years at Portman and Nationwide. He does not have a job to go and is considering options.
Chris Rhodes, Nationwide’s executive director for group retail, who McQueen and his interim replacement will report to, says: “I would like to thank Andy for the contribution he has made to Nationwide and we wish him well for the future.”
His departure comes as Nationwide celebrates a successful 2013, which saw its ‘you don’t need a bank’ ads help it double profits and boost new current account numbers.
Leonard had been marketing director at West Bromwich Building Society for three years before joining Nationwide. His COO role at Nationwide is new and he will be responsible for campaign execution.
