Asthma UK has appointed former Barnado’s marketer Lindsay Gormley as its first full-time marketing director as it looks to develop a brand strategy that can help raise awareness of the work it does with asthma sufferers and boost fundraising for research into better treatments.

While at Barnado’s, Gormley was responsible for developing its brand strategy and worked on its “Life Story” campaign. Prior to that she worked for the Department of Transport on social marketing campaigns including the anti-drink drive initiative THINK!.

Asthma UK is also appointing its first fundraising director in Caroline Hellicar and promoting Samantha Walker, currently director of research and policy, to deputy chief executive.

The charity’s chief executive Kay Boycott says: “Someone has an asthma attack every 10 seconds and we are committed to changing this. Increasing our brand profile is essential to achieving this which is why this new role has been created to drive this forward.

“We will be developing a brand strategy which clearly and powerfully conveys our vision for the 5.4 million people with asthma in the UK.”
