888Poker reviews Luis Suarez deal after alleged biting

Online poker site 888Poker.com says it is “reviewing” its relationship with Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan was accused of biting an opponent during last night’s (24 June) World Cup match against Italy.

Television images appear to show Suarez sinking his teeth into Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder in the 1-0 victory that saw Uruguay qualify for the last 16 of the tournament and eliminate four time champions Italy.

FIFA is investigating the alleged incident with the Liverpool FC striker likely to face a lengthy ban if found guilty.

888 tweeted earlier from its official account: “Following recent allegations made against Luis Suárez, we are reviewing our relationship with him. We will not tolerate unsporting behaviour.”

The Uruguayan became an “official worldwide ambassador” for the brand last month. The deal saw the striker playing online and appearing at live branded events.

It is not the first time Suarez has bitten an opponent during a match. An incident in a Premier League match last year saw him handed a lengthy ban and a rebuke from main sponsor Adidas.

Adidas is expected to make a statement about last night’s incident later today.
