Weve appoints interim CEO

Weve, the mobile advertising, payments and loyalty joint venture between the UK’s largest operators, has appointed former ZenithOptimedia UK boss Tim Hipperson as its interim CEO.

Weve has appointed Tim Hipperson as its interim CEO.

He takes over with immediate effect from David Sear, who is leaving the company this month to join online payments company Skrill as its chief commercial officer.

Hipperson will be charged with ensuring a smooth transition after Sear’s exit as the joint venture hunts for a permanent chief executive, which could take some time as the replacement will need experience covering the multiple areas Weve covers across data, marketing, loyalty and mobile.

The replacement will also need unanimous approval from Weve’s shareholders: Vodafone, EE, and O2.

Hipperson has extensive media experience, having served as UK CEO of ZenithOptimedia and CEO roles at WPP agencies G2 Joshua and RMG Connect, the former relationship marketing division of JWT.

Weve has been growing its portfolio of marketing and advertising services since its inception in 2013 and now has an opted-in audience based of 22 million consumers.

Most recently it brought its mobile display advertising service out of trial.

The company is also testing a loyalty app, Pouch, and mobile contactless payment, in partnership with Mastercard.
