An open letter to intrepid young marketer Alfred Ajani…

A plucky young graduate has made headlines begging for a career in marketing. We’re keen to help him.

Dear Alfred,

This is what we love about marketers.

Creativity, pro-activity and thinking (literally) on your feet are some of the key skills which make up great marketers, so at Marketing Week we were thrilled to see a recent marketing graduate like you doing just that at Waterloo Station.

(For those of you who missed it, Alfred Ajani stood in Waterloo Station this week and handed out his CV at rush hour and has since received a better response rate than most of us could claim for our latest email campaign. You can see his story, which made international coverage in the Mail Online, here).

So, marketing friends far and wide, let’s #getAlfredajob and remind ourselves why we chose marketing as a profession – because when the going gets tough, competition looks fierce, and you’re struggling to get a response, that’s the time when marketing can drive great innovation, get sh*t done and turn it around.

Alfred, get in touch with our own marketing team (just email laura.mcqueen@centaur.co.uk) and we’ll hook you up with our friends in the recruitment team, make sure you keep up to date every week with a Marketing Week subscription and throw in a ticket to the Festival of Marketing.

Marketing Week readers, don’t forget it’s graduate season – take a chance on young marketers, and don’t underestimate the power of enthusiasm and tenacity. After all, the world of marketing would be a boring place if we all hired on the basis of ticking boxes. Use your marketing skills and get creative with the recruitment process.

Good luck Alfred – we look forward to hearing from you.
