Lenovo makes senior marketing appointment as it bids to become ‘top 10 brand’ in Europe

Lenovo, the world’s largest PC-maker that earlier this year announced plans to acquire Motorola, has appointed Jo Moore from Ogilvy & Mather to spearhead the Chinese company’s ambitions to become a “top 10 brand” in Europe.

Lenovo has appointed Jo Moore as its EMEA brand and consumer marketing director.

Moore – who becomes Lenovo’s EMEA brand and consumer marketing director – will be charged with supporting the drive to build the brand into one of the most “recognised and trusted” consumer electronics companies in the world, following a year of milestones for the company, according to a statement announcing the appointment.

Over the past 12 months Lenovo has retained the top spot in the worldwide PC market, grew to the third biggest global tablet maker in terms of market share and announced the acquisitions of Motorola Mobility from Google and IBM’s X86 server business.

Moore will report into Lenovo’s vice president of EMEA marketing Jan Huckfeldt, who says the new appointment will support the brand’s marketing strategy switch from “monologue to dialogue” in the region.

He adds: “Jo joins the team at a very exciting time. Our brand is incredibly strong with business users but our focus is to continue to propel Lenovo into the hearts and minds of consumers.  The foundations are well established already across the EMEA region and our investments over the last two years are paying off in terms of how the brand is strengthening across key markets like UK, France, Germany and Russia and the growth markets in Middle East and Africa.”

Moore joins from Ogilvy & Mather, where she was worldwide managing director for global brands, working with technology clients including Motorola plus Kodak, Qualcomm and broader consumer marketing experience from brands such as American Express and Philips. She also served as an EMEA consulting partner and sat on the company’s UK management board.

Prior to joining Ogilvy & Mather in 2005, Moore held senior roles at a number of other advertising agencies across her 20-year career, including at CHI & Partners, St Luke’s and McCann Erickson.
