Ian McGregor (not pictured) has been appointed to lead marketing for the Currys PC World brand.

McGregor will have responsibility for the advertising creative, media buying, visual store communications and consumer PR for Currys PC World.

He replaces formed head of brand communications Benjamin Kaye, who has left the company to “explore new opportunities”, according to a spokesman.

McGregor joins from games company Activision where he was vice president of marketing and shared services. He has also held a senior marketing role at Electronic Arts and was board account director at agency Publicis London for more than five years.

The appointment appears to dismiss the rumour that the Currys PC World brand could be scrapped as a result of the Dixons Retail and Carphone Warehouse merger, which completed in August.

In reporting the company’s first quarterly results as a merged entity, Dixons CEO Sebastian James said the integration of the companies was “ahead of its wildest expectations”.

It is not known if marketing is among the seven departments to integrate. As it stands, former Telefonica Europe CMO Gary Booker is Dixons Retail CMO, which Julian Diment performs a similar role at Carphone Warehouse.
