Cancer Research UK to allow contactless donations via shop windows
In a “world first”, Cancer Research UK has announced a new four-store trial to take contactless donations through shop windows.
The collaboration with outdoor media technologists Clear Channel will allow customers to make instant donations of £2 by simply tapping their debit or credit card on the window of one of the chosen charity shops.
The contactless technology will be available in the Kensington, Guilford, Marylebone and Brighton branches from 30 January, with the trial ending on World Cancer Day on February 4.
Available 24 hours a day, the trial is a “world first” according to Paul Clarke from Cancer Research UK, who said the charity would consider rolling it out permanently if it proves to be a success.
“This contactless window display is an important step towards offering brands a contactless payment solution away from their point of sale and works brilliantly with the ‘tap donation’, enabling Cancer Research UK scientists to continue their vital research,” added Neil Chapman, head of creative at Clear Channel UK.
