Samsung’s most senior mobile marketer steps down after just a month

Samsung’s head of strategic marketing for mobile, Kim Seok-pil, will be stepping down from his role after just over a month.

Samsung has confirmed that Kim will step down, according to a Reuters report yesterday (3 Feb). Lee Sang-chul, former head of Samsung Mobile in Russia, will replace Kim just over a month after his appointment, according to the report.

Kim, who overlooked the brand’s global smartphone division, replaced D.J. Lee for the role in December 2014 after a marketing reshuffle.

The current change in the role is said to be due to Kim’s ill health, which may leave room for the former-executive to return in the near future, according to Reuters.

Samsung’s initial reshuffle was said to be due to the lack of smartphone sales for the Galaxy S5. The company continues to struggle with smartphone sales, reporting a 64% drop in profit for its mobile division in Q4 2014.

The news arrives as Samsung looks toward releasing the Galaxy 6, on 1 March at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The Galaxy 6 is widely anticipated, to see if it can save the brand’s recent drop in sales and compete with Apple’s successful final quarter.
