The top 10 YouTube ads in November

While it is perhaps a tad unsurprising, almost all of this month’s top YouTube ads have a festive touch to them. But which Christmas ad reigned supreme? Here’s the rundown of the top 10.

1. John Lewis – Christmas Advert 2015 #ManOnTheMoon

John Lewis is known for its tearjerker Christmas ads, and this year was no different. Its Man On The Mood collaboration with Age UK has clearly hit a nerve with the British public – within a month, it has racked up more than 20 million views.

2. Sainsbury’s – Mog’s Christmas Calamity

Closely following John Lewis is Sainsbury’s Christmas campaign, which features a CGI version of author Judith Kerr’s fictional feline character Mog. The cat accidentally ruins Christmas by setting fire to his family’s house. However, the fire service and neighbours come to the rescue with food and presents alongside the returning Sainsbury’s ‘Christmas is for Sharing’ slogan. According to the brand, it was hoping to make people ‘laugh not cry’.

3. M&S – #TheArtOfChristmas

For its Christmas campaign, M&S decided to stick with its current ‘The art of’ theme. The retailer’s ‘The art of Christmas’ ad, which is celebrity-free for the second year, shows an 8-year-old girl’s journey as she travels through the different stages of Christmas. Instead of launching the campaign on social media as the brand has done for the past couple of years, the ad debuted to its two million Sparks loyalty card members.

4. Aldi – Telescope Christmas Advert 2015

The unveiling of the John Lewis Christmas could almost be considered an annual cultural event in the UK. However, one brand that was hoping to steal some of its limelight is Aldi. The discount supermarket decided to take a light-hearted swipe at the retailer by making its own version of the “Man on the moon” advert. And it wasn’t without success – research by Waggener Edstrom showed that its ad led to the biggest buzz on social media.

5. Emirates – #HelloJetman

The only non-festive ad that made it into this month’s top 10 is an Emirates campaign featuring Yves “Jetman” Rossy. The daredevil is mainly known for flying with nothing but a jetpack attached to his body. This time around, he is seen soaring through the skies above Dubai alongside an Emirates jet.

6. House of Fraser – Christmas Advert 2015 #YourRules
