1. Sainsbury’s – The Greatest Gift
YouTube saw a 53% increase in views of Christmas ads compared to 2015, with Sainsbury’s proving to be the most popular in the UK. With its blockbuster CGI-effects and James Corden sing-a-long, the supermarket giant came top in terms of views.
2. John Lewis – #BustertheBoxer
A close second is the much-hyped John Lewis Christmas ad. Featuring a lighter narrative than previous years, the campaign’s trampoline-loving dog already feels like it’s been absolutely everywhere. And it managed to top the global list.
3. M&S – Christmas with love from Mrs. Claus
While its fashion woes continue to make the business headlines, M&S can at least take solace from its popular Christmas ad. Featuring a unique portrayal of Mrs. Claus, the heartwarming ad has achieved strong cut-through.
4. Waitrose – #HomeforChristmas
Even Scrooge would be charmed by Waitrose’s Christmas offering, which features a Robin flying thousands of miles to return to England for a festive mince pie. It also means the John Lewis Partnership has two entries this month, suggesting animals are the way forward if you want to tug on the emotions.
5. Burberry – The tale of Thomas Burberry
With a cast of actors and directors that could rival most Hollywood productions, Burberry’s Christmas ad rounds off the top five. Spoiler: it isn’t a real film. Sorry guys.
