BT Sport, The AA, Heineken: The Top 10 YouTube ads in June

From politics to sport and a singing baby, the themes varied for the top UK YouTube ads in June, which were compiled by balancing the total number of views with the percentage of organic and paid views.

1. YouTube: Spotlight Use your #PowerToDecide

YouTube has come top of its own list with this ad released around the General Election last month. The video urges young people to use their voice to vote on the 8 June, telling them they have the ‘power to decide’. The ad features a number of YouTube influencers including Adrian Bliss, Humza Productions and Mandeville Sisters to appeal to a younger generation. With ‘Watch what I can do’ by 7kingz playing as its soundtrack, it’s little surprising the upbeat ad takes the number one spot for June.

2. BT Sport: UEFA Champions League Final 2017 – BT Sport 4K live stream

Not really an ad as such, but the popularity of YouTube’s live stream of BT Sport’s UEFA Champions League Final has helped propel it up the list. BT Sport’s TV channels are paid-for, but this stream allowed users to watch the final match for free and in 4K UHD. There was also an option to watch it in immersive 360 VR.

3. YouTube & IRC: Spotlight #MoreThanARefugee

YouTube makes another appearance on the list, teaming up with The International Rescue Committee for this third place contender. The poignant video features refugees from around the world who all share their own stories. The video uses the hashtag #MoreThanARefugee to conquer stereotypes some people may have and is part of YouTube’s wider strategy to tackle difficult social issues.

4. The AA: AA Singing Baby TV ad 2017

“Brits are bored of ads about car bonnets,” the AA’s head of group marketing told Marketing Week at the time of the ad’s release, and it would appear she was right. The video, which features a young toddler singing along to Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary’, came in fourth place and has already had 301,605 views.

5. DJI: Introducing Spark

DJI’s ad about ‘Spark’, its first ever mini drone, has racked up almost 3 million views globally, and it is clear why. Aimed at thrill seekers and keen photographers, the video uses stunning visuals to show how the drone can be used in different situations including at a basketball match, graduations and while travelling.
