The Marketing Academy appoints first global chair in expansion push

Cannes Lion chairman Terry Savage is joining The Marketing Academy as it looks to accelerate its global expansion plan and raise awareness of its work.

The Marketing Academy

The Marketing Academy has appointed Cannes Lions’ chairman Terry Savage as its first global chair in an expansion push.

Savage is tasked with helping the Academy further its global expansion plans. He will also lead a ‘global council’ of industry figures with the aim of raising awareness of the organisation and its work across the world.

Phil Rumbol, partner at MullenLowe, will continue as UK chair.

The Marketing Academy launched in the UK in 2010 with Marketing Week as a founder partner. It first expanded to Australia in 2015 and is now planning to open in the US later this year, ahead of a launch in the Middle East in 2018.

The not-for-profit runs an annual scholarship programme to develop future marketing leaders in the UK and Australia, as well as a Fellowship scheme that aims to help senior marketing leaders make the leap to the boardroom.

The Marketing Academy’s founder and CEO, Sherilyn Shackell, says Savage, who joins in June after 33 years with Cannes Lions, brings a wealth of experience that will help with global expansion plans.

“For the last eight years we have been uniting companies, CEOs and CMOs across the entire industry to share their wisdom and expertise with the next generation of leaders. With more than 400 alumni of our programmes we remain totally committed to inspiring and developing exceptional talent,” she explains.

“Terry brings a wealth of experience and knowledge at a global level and I am beyond excited that he has agreed to support us in the next step of our growth.”

The Academy is sponsored by organisations including Microsoft, McKinsey, Facebook, BT, Commonwealth Bank, News Corp, ITV, Virgin Atlantic, Accenture, PHD and PwC.
