The Marketing Academy launches US scholarship programme

The programme will be based in New York and includes three residential boot camps, as well as individual mentoring.

The Marketing Academy is expanding its scholarship programme to the US, meaning it is now available in three regions, having first launched in the UK eight years ago before expanding to Australia in 2014.

The programme will see 30 individuals take part in a nine-month, part-time leadership development course, including workshops and individual mentoring.

Based in New York, the programme is open to marketeers with between five and 15 years experience. Candidates can apply from any marketing, advertising, media and communications background but must be nominated first before going through an eight-week selection process.

Sherilyn Shackell, founder of The Marketing Academy, says: “In such a fast-changing world, developing our talent is the only certain way to ensure growth. I’m truly delighted to be opening nominations for the first scholarship in the US and have been overwhelmed by the support we’ve been given by the industry as a whole”.

The scholarship programme is designed around four core learning modules on personal and professional development, leadership skills and being a change-maker. This includes one-to-one mentoring sessions with CEOs and CMOs from marketing and advertising as well as three residential boot camps.

This year’s US mentors include Catherine Tan, global CMO of KFC Yum Brands; Colin MacDonald, president of advertising and allied agencies of McCann Worldgroup; and Berta De Pablos-Barbier, president of Mars Wrigley Confectionery.

Scholarship alumni and marketing director of Audible Japan, Chris Gross, says: “As dramatic as it sounds, it is a life changing programme. Be prepared to change as a human being, a leader and a marketer – because that will happen. Without a doubt, it’s the best education, development or self-improvement experience I’ve done, and the one I’ve had the most tangible results and improvements from.”

The programme is sponsored Salesforce, Wall Street Journal, Mars Wrigley Confectionery, Delta Air Lines, Facebook and KFC Global. Marketing Week is a founding partner of The Marketing Academy.

To take part in the programme, potential scholars need to be nominated via www.themarketingacademy.us before submiting a three-part application by 14 September 2018. The scholarship starts in December 2018 and runs through to July 2019.
