BMW, Apple, Three: The top 10 YouTube ads in October

From BMW’s spot showcasing its futuristic electric vehicles to a man being confronted by several versions of himself in Apple’s “there’s a better you in you” advert, these are the top 10 most watched ads on YouTube for October.

1. BMW – Drive the Future Today

Slick, speed and style come to mind when watching BMW’s advert for its BMW i series of all-electric engines and plug-in hybrids. Not straying far from its usual approach, the 30-spot shows the futuristic vehicle driving across a bridge accompanied by a spectacular sunset which matches the exterior of the car. A voiceover can be heard saying: “Progress: it’s not just the milestones you pass, it’s more than simply adapting, it’s letting go of the past and finding possibility where others see barriers.”

2. Apple UK – Introducing the iPhone XR

Would it really be a “most watched YouTube ads” write-up if it didn’t feature an Apple ad? Nope. And trust us, there is more where this came from. This advert showcases everything that Apple encompasses and is actually the second instalment of a series of adverts highlighting the company’s new XR and XS models. Like any mobile phone advert, the footage shows the device from a number of sleek angles, while pointing out its key features such as a Liquid Retina LCD display and camera, as well as unseen hardware, an A12 bionic processor, face ID and water resistant construction. The ad also highlights the phone’s photographic functionality, particularly smart HDR and dynamic depth control.

3. Three UK – #PhonesAreGood

Not venturing too far from Three’s usual humour-driven approach, this two-and-a-half-minute spot re-imagines pivotal moments in history while attempting to demonstrate how much better things would have been if phones had been available then. This includes cavemen being saved from starvation after ordering a Deliveroo and Henry VIII’s wives avoiding execution thanks to Tinder. Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the campaign also features Samsung, Snapchat, Instagram and LinkedIn.

4. Apple UK – iPhone XS Illusion

Yes, you guessed it… another Apple advert. This time the spot is showcasing the tech-giant’s iPhone XS and XS Max which seem wildly similar to the XR. Without showing off the phones features the slot reveals the company’s new gold iPhone models against a black back drop. The 30-second long commercial closes with the slogan, “welcome to the big screens”, which is accompanied by the Apple logo, scattered in gold dust and glitter.

5. Apple UK – Apple Watch Series: Better You

Moving away from its slick, high-def, futuristic mobile phone adverts, Apple’s spot for its Watch Series 4 takes a completely different approach. And it’s rather refreshing. Championing the slogan “there’s a better you in you” the ad features a number of versions of the same man. But the difference is, when he’s wearing the Apple Watch he is far more superior than his watch-less counterparts.

Set to the tune of Toy by Young Fathers, a morning sat on the couch sipping coffee escalates as the watch encourages the man to go for a run. Mid-run he starts seeing more versions of himself, some are having a conversation via their watch while others are listening to tunes through their wireless Apple earbuds. The final scene shows one version of the man sprinting across a beach in goggles and swimsuit, before leaping into the ocean.
