3 questions I wish I’d asked as a junior marketer: Ladbrokes Coral’s Dominic Grounsell
GVC group managing director Dominic Grounsell has sought out broad marketing experience in a career that has covered multiple sectors, but he believes getting to know yourself should be an essential workplace KPI.
Dominic Grounsell has made a point of not following the routes that were expected of him in his career. After securing a “milkround” appointment at Unilever as a marketing graduate trainee, he left the FMCG giant after four years to become head of broadband acquisition at BT.
His next stop was as marketing director at Capital One, and a slew of positions for insurance and financial services brands culminated in Grounsell joining gambling group GVC, parent company of Ladbrokes and Coral.
Now located in Gibraltar, he has steered the group through the difficulties of lockdown, which has seen sporting fixtures cancelled or postponed, with the observation that “calm seas don’t make skilful sailors”.
Grounsell says that being honest with yourself if a key attribute for any marketer and this thinking shapes the questions he would ask if he had his time over again.
