AA announces marketing redundancies

The AA is making 130 marketing and communications roles redundant following the ousting of AA financial services managing director Clare Salmon and marketing director Emma Kenny in October (MW October 7). Salmon has this week been appointed marketing director for ITV.

The AA has also announced 470 other redundancies at its headquarters. The company is still consulting its employees and the structure of the marketing departments of its newly separated businesses have not yet been agreed by the AA’s new owners, venture capitalists CVC Capital Partners and Permira.

In October, new chief executive Tim Parker ousted many of the AA’s senior directors. The latest cull comes on top of 1,300 job losses announced after the AA decided to close its car servicing and tyre-fitting operations.

Under Parker, the AA will be run as three autonomous businesses covering road services, insurance and lending, without any centralised functions. The company’s public relations function is also being devolved.
