Under Armour, Nike, Apple: The top 10 YouTube ads in March

Last month’s top ads on YouTube feature Anthony Joshua’s mental preparation ahead of a fight for Under Armour, Nike’s new Mercurial football boots and the first rap battle between a voice app and a rapper for the Trainline.

1. Under Armour: Anthony Joshua – Your greatest opponent is you

Ahead of his heavyweight title fight against Joseph Parker, Under Armour released a campaign featuring Anthony Joshua. The ad shows the boxer, who is sponsored by the brand, focusing on his mental preparation for the fight and how athletes face a battle against the voice in their head to reach their full potential. Joshua went on to win the fight.

2. Adidas: See Creativity

The latest instalment in Adidas’s ‘Here to create’ campaign, ‘See Creativity’ features a host of female athletes describing how they think of creativity. It was released to coincide with International Women’s Day on 8 March.

“Hard work is a given. We believe that athletes who tap into their creativity have a powerful edge,” says Lia Stierwalt, senior director of global brand communications at Adidas. “This new film continues the ‘Here to Create’ conversation from last year reinforcing the brand’s point of view that engaging an athlete’s imagination to unleash their creativity will take them further than their mind or body ever could.”

3. Nike Football: Born mercurial

The latest star-studded spot from Nike features top footballers including Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe showing off their skills in Nike’s new Mercuria lSuperfly 360 and Mercurial Vapor football boots. Expect the analogy between the boots and a tiger to be massively overplayed, to great effect.

4. Trainline: Big Shaq x Trainline voice rap

The Trainline shows off its new Google voice app with a digital campaign that sets up the first voice-activated rap battle between a voice app and a rapper. Featuring Big Shaq, a rap character created by comedian Michael Dapaah, it shows the two going head-to-head to answer questions on rail travel with rhymes.

5. Nike: Choose Go – Feature

Nike’s second ad to make the March list, this spot asks what would happen if the world stopped spinning and gets answers from athletes including basketball player Kobe Bryant, gymnast Simone Biles and scientist Bill Nye. The spot aims to promote a new range of audio-guided runs available on the Nike Run Club app, as well as physical and digital runs the brand is holding in cities including LA, Paris and Tokyo on 22 April.
