Advertising Association readies comms drive

The Advertising Association is readying a communication campaign to boost understanding among opinion formers, such as politicians, of the economic and social benefits of advertising.

The trade body has appointed its first PR agency Fishburn Hedges to handle public affairs and PR.

The agency will help develop a campaign in the hope that influential figures including politicians, NGO executives, and academics, will make decisions that will benefit the sector.

It is hoped that the agency will help make the sector’s case in Whitehall at a time when the role of advertising in what Prime Minister (pictured) calls the “commercialisation of childhood” is under scrutiny. The government has asked Mothers’ Union to review current rules governing marketing to children.

Fishburn Hedges’ appointment follows the launch last year of Credos, a think tank setup by the Advertising Association to make the sector’s case to the pubic and politicians.
