‘Air Miles’ jets off to Hong Kong

Miles Young has reluctantly “stepped aside” as leader of Westminster City Council, putting all those tiresome questions about housing policies 8,000 miles behind him. He’s jetted off to become president of Ogilvy & Mather’s Asia-Pacific operations, based in Hong Kong.

Will Miles, who rose to prominence under the tutelage of Lady Shirley Porter, enter into the local fray? Perhaps not. After all, “Air Miles”, as he is known to friends and foes alike, has convinced his local Conservative Party that he can remain sufficiently “hands-on” to keep his seat in the Victoria ward of Westminster.

Word has reached the Diary that he’s likely to leave the colony well before 1997, when the Chinese march in.
