Air Miles parts company with marketing director

Air Miles Travel Company marketing director Robert Pepper has left the company and is being replaced by acting marketing director Laura Scarlett.

Pepper is not believed to have a job to go to but Air Miles maintains that the parting is by “mutual agreement” and that Pepper had completed the relaunching and rebranding tasks for which he had been employed.

Scarlett is being seconded from Dunnhumby, the Air Miles’ customer data marketing agency, where she has been managing director of Cinnamon, the in-house design division. Air Miles maintains that it will advertise for a marketing director in due course.

Pepper was recruited in March last year from the position of head of customer relationship management at T-Mobile (MWMarch 6, 2003).

Air Miles, wholly owned by British Airways and repositioned as a travel company last year, recently appointed BA head of loyalty Chris Jansen as managing director (MW May 27). He replaced Drew Thomson, who left after failing to pull off a planned management buy-out together with finance director Robin Wooldridge.

Grey London handles Air Miles’ advertising. However, the company spent only &338,000 on advertising in the year to March (Nielsen Media Research) and is placing more emphasis on direct marketing and targeted magazine advertising features.

Air Miles recently revamped its reward offer with Tesco Clubcard to allow customers to receive 60 miles for every &2.50 Clubcard voucher earned instead of 40 (MW May 20).
