Alfa Romeo promotes head of marketing

Sergio Cravero, Alfa Romeo’s head of marketing, has been promoted to chief executive of the car marque. The position became available when Luca De Meo, who was also chief marketing officer for the Fiat Group, left the company last Tuesday.

Cravero will also be responsible for coordinating product development of individual models and for determining product initiatives for the Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo brands.

Fiat Group chief executive, Sergio Marchionne, says: “The automotive sector is experiencing changes, which require Fiat to adapt its organisational structure rapidly. The reorganisation is an important step in helping Fiat Group to face future market challenges.”

The changes at Fiat come as speculation mounts that De Meo will take up a senior marketing position at Volkswagen later this month. De Meo is widely regarded as the man who turned around Fiat’s fortunes over recent years.
