Tait will look after Arcadia’s global online platforms for high street brands including Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and Burton.
He will join the retail group headed by Sir Philip Green in May and is likely to report to Simon Pritchard, global group director of ecommerce.
He replaces Graham Morrell who left in October to join fashion brand Jack Wills as global head of ecommerce.
Tait is also chair of ISBA’s Digital, Data & Direct Action Group and a Marketing Week columnist.
Previously he was director of international digital acquisition at American Express and also held the head of digital marketing role at Post Office.
