Asda to launch British-made George range

Asda is planning to bolster the British clothing industry by launching a range of clothes made exclusively in the UK. The retailer claims it will produce more than a million garments each year.

The range, which will launch on April 2, will be part of the George brand but will have a Union Jack label to verify that it has been made in the UK.

Angela Spindler, managing director of George Global, says: “Britain has some of the best clothing designers and manufacturers in the world, and we want to see their products in our stores.

“We believe customers will want to buy British clothes in the same way they want to buy locally produced foods grown and prepared in Britain.”

The company is also setting up a Dragon’s Den-style access system where UK clothing manufacturers can present their ideas and designs to a panel of Asda buyers.
