Asda trials “Argos-style” ordering service

Asda is trialling an “Argos-style” in-store ordering service for non-food products to keep up with rival Tesco.

The ordering service will allow customers to order products from in-store kiosks or an online catalogue.

In an interview with The Financial Times, Asda CEO Andy Clarke reveals that the supermarket, which is the second biggest in the UK, is currently running the Asda Extra trial in three stores.

If successful, it could be rolled out widely across its estate.

Asda has previously revealed ambitious plans to become the biggest non-food retailer in the UK.

The supermarket is believed to be interested in acquiring the Home Retail Group which owns Argos and Homebase.

Earlier this week Asda launched a discount voucher scheme designed to drive loyalty and encourage trial of new products.
