Asos appoints marketing director

ASOS.com has appointed former Nike marketer Clare Dobbie as marketing director.

Previously, Dobbie has held marketing titles at brands including Nike, Gap Inc and French Connection.

She spent four years as the marketing communications director at Nike UK where she oversaw the launch of Nike town. She then joined high street fashion chain French Connection as marketing director.

She has also spent time at Gap Inc where she was the initial vice president of marketing for Europe and responsible for both setting up the European marketing team and launching Banana Republic in London.

Most recently, she has been a consultant as advertising agency Mother.

She will join the firm in March and report directly to Asos chief executive officer Nick Robertson,. She will also join the Asos operating board.

Robertson says: “Having worked in creative agencies, covering big campaigns for brands including Nike, Sony Playstation, Sky and Boots and working within French Connection, Gap and Banana Republic, Clare brings with her a wealth of experience in successful international brand marketing.”

Yesterday the online fashion retailer revealed that growth had slowed during the five weeks to 3 January but sales were 30% up on the previous year.

Asos is sponsoring TV series Next Top Model on Living with the aim of increasing brand awareness. The TV sponsorship is supported by a press ad campaign promoting the show.
