Barclaycard to scrap CMO role

Barclaycard will scrap the role of chief marketing officer once incumbent Nina Bibby leaves.

It was announced yesterday (30 May) Bibby will join O2 as consumer marketing director in November, replacing Sally Cowdry, who left earlier this year to join National Lottery operator Camelot.

It is understood the payment services firm will not replace Bibby, who had held the post for three years, and will instead restructure the department.

Instead her responsibilities will be distributed throughout the senior marketing team. It is thought oversight of brand strategy and sponsorship will pass to European consumer marketing director Katherine Whitton, while corporate communications boss Paul Lockstone and digital products managing director Nick Kerigan will pickup digital, social media and insight duties.

Additionally, Barclaycard is planning to hire a global business solutions marketing director to manage its relationships with merchants, a role Bibby has been covering on an interim basis.

It is thought Barclaycard took Bibby’s departure as an opportunity to look at how its structure could give more attention to each area.

A Barclaycard spokesman says: “We wish Nina all the best in her new role and thank her for her contribution to Barclaycard over the last three years.”
