Barclays marketer takes Brotherton’s post at Audi

Audi has appointed Barclays marketer Peter Duffy as its marketing chief to replace Nigel Brotherton, who left the Volkswagen-owned marque last year.

Duffy, who is director of marketing services at Barclays and has been with the bank for 12 years, joins Audi as head of marketing on May 14. He will report to UK director Jeremy Hicks.

Audi has been without a marketing chief for four months after Brotherton returned to Volkswagen as head of loyalty.

It had been reported that Audi brand communications manager Chris Hawken was the frontrunner to replace Brotherton, but he will report to Duffy.

Brotherton had been in the post for just over a year, after joining Audi from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, where he was head of marketing (MW September 15, 2005).

He replaced Gary Savage, who became head of operations, in the top marketing job at Audi.

Duffy will have responsibility for Audi’s £16m UK advertising budget and will oversee its relationship with long-time advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty, which also works with high street bank Barclays.

Last year, Duffy conducted the review of Barclays’ £30m direct marketing account, which was eventually split between EHS Brann and WWAV Rapp Collins (MW August 3, 2006).
