BBC promotes Mogull to head iPlayer development

The BBC has promoted Kerstin Mogull, deputy policy and strategy director, to the new role of chief operating officer for Future Media & Technology, the department responsible for developing the iPlayer.

Mogull, who will report to FM&T director Erik Huggers, will be responsible for ensuring the department works effectively with other BBC divisions including news, Vision and Audio & Music, as well as with the BBC Trust, the broadcaster’s governing body.

In her previous role, she was responsible for driving the BBC’s strategy for content across all media platforms. Mogull has also worked as strategy group controller, where she was responsible for initiatives such as the Delivering Creative Future blueprint.

Huggers says: “Her appointment allows us to build strong governance and real coherence across the Future Media and Technology portfolios, as well as managing our relationship with the Trust – which is key to the success of our division.”

He was promoted to head the department following the departure of Ashley Highfield to Project Kangaroo, the BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4 joint video-on-demand venture. He joined the consortium as chief executive.

Huggers, who joined from Microsoft as FM&T controller last year, is also on the BBC executive board.
