BBC should prove case for digital TV levy

Torin Douglas’ analysis of the commercial broadcasters’ case against the digital licence fee supposes that we are dallying with the notion of advertising, sponsorship or subscription as an alternative means of funding the BBC’s ambitions. We aren’t.

We’re saying that the BBC has made neither the case for increasing its scope, nor satisfied anyone that its &£2.5bn is inadequate funding for the extraordinary broadcaster we all want it to be.

I’m genuinely surprised that Douglas sees no threat to public support for the licence fee if Davies’ plans are implemented.
